This April ‘Āina Momona is proud to celebrate the 80th birthday of our Kupuna Nui, Uncle Walter Ritte. The fearless leader and visionary of our organization, Uncle Walter has dedicated his life to defending ‘āina and building the strength of our lāhui. From protecting the island Kaho‘olawe from the U.S. military’s bombs, to restoring traditional fishponds as living food systems, to stopping disastrous erosion through community-led restoration on his home island Moloka‘i, Uncle Walter has spent decades working for our people, our land, and our future as Hawaiians.
This year, we want to celebrate our hero and honor all that he has accomplished in his amazing 80 years. On this momentous occasion, despite Uncle Walter’s insistence that we “no need do anything big,” we are hosting a birthday fundraiser to honor Uncle, his lifetime of achievements, and his current work, since we all know he has never stopped working or fighting a day in his life.
On Saturday, April 12th 2025 please join us for a fundraiser dinner to celebrate Uncle Walter’s 80th. The celebration will include live music, ‘ono food, and a mākeke. All proceeds will go to supporting ‘Āina Momona’s Moloka‘i ahupua‘a restoration efforts. Tickets are limited. Event details are as follows:
